Surgery Thoughts Part 2

Dec 19, 2024

You ever try to use a quotation in a witty or emotional way, only to have it backfire on you because life has other plans? No? What a shame. You should try it sometime. If you don’t have a funny bone, it forces your body to grow one.

Unfortunately, my surgery was cancelled. My surgeon, pale and stricken, walked in, asked everyone to step out, drew the curtain, and apologized. He informed me that the meniscus arrived late last night, and the team only realized as they were prepping me for surgery that the one they received was for a left knee, not a right one.

The timing of the news was hilarious. One nurse had shaved my leg and was preparing the IV, looking for a second vein because she had messed up on the first one (even though I had good veins). The anesthesiologist had just introduced herself and was informing me about the application of a nerve block. I had gotten all comfortable in the bed with heating going through my one piece surgical attire. Temporary bliss was minutes away.

Of course, even temporary blisses aren’t afforded to me.

If that’s the case, then neither should they for you:

Shaved leg

Demonic

On the bright side, I can spend Christmas and New Year’s on one and a half fine legs with my family and girlfriend. That’s something, isn’t it? I was planning on training my grip strength during the time I was on the couch, but it looks like I can get a head start on that while being mobile. Golly, I might even watch Sonic the Hedgehog 3 tomorrow with my friends! Though, given the temporal proximity, a freshly acquired ticket might destroy my cervical spine for two hours.

The surgeon hopes to reschedule my surgery for late January, if a new donor match is found soon.

With that said, you deserve my next GIF attempt to round off this delectably bite-sized post:

Don't you dare ask me if I'm the girl in this.
